HAPPY VALLEY-GOOSE BAY, NEWFOUNDLAND/LABRADOR, CANADA - NOVEMBER 8, 2019
Alex Saunders, 78, sits at his home in the military base town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador surrounded by pictures of old adventures in the Labrador wilderness and an antique harpoon on the wall. Saunders, who has First Nations heritage, was raised learning to survive in harsh sub-arctic environments. After a career as a commercial fisherman, he still gets most of his food from the land. He says he's had to adapt to a changing world, and that Canadian hydro-electricity projects supported by New England's energy purchases are threatening the traditional way of life of the region's Innu and Inuit.
